A pan-Yoruba socio-political group known as Afenifere has ordered citizens in the Yoruba speaking South-West geo-political zone to launch deadly traditional self defence against the Fulani Herdsmen allegedly ravaging the region.
The
group further decried the high scale insecurity in the nation and
especially Yoruba land. The pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation
disclosed that Fulani Herdsmen are launching large scale attacks on the
people of the SouthWest region without being questioned by the
government while appealing with the Federal Government to be pro active
on the insecurity menace ravaging the land so the country will not be
forced to embark on another civil war.
This
was disclosed in a communique issued after an high powered meeting of
the ancient pro-ethnic emancipation group which took place at the
residence of the respected elder states-man and leader, Pa Reuben
Fasoranti, on Monday.The communique was signed by Mr Yinka Odumakin, the
group’s Secretary.
The
group disclosed that the Fulani marauders and crusaders are laying
siege to the region, embarking on various degrees of criminal acts. In
line with this the pro Yoruba group urged Yoruba people to launch their
deadly traditional self-defence against the notorious and bloody
herdsmen group.
The group stated that
“Unfortunately, the government in place has betrayed perceived
complicity as we are not aware of any member of the group ( herdsmen) on
trial for these monumental crimes even when Miyetti Allah has owned up
to some of them.
“Instead, the regime has treated them with kid gloves, making excuses
for their crimes with our Ministry of Information and presidential
media office being made to look like Boko Haram and Miyetti Allah media
centre as they issue statements to defend these groups even when they
are not defending themselves with the Presidency equating Miyetti Allah
with Afenifere and Ohanaeze in order to confer legitimacy on them.
“ Of late is the is the insensitive and impunity-inspired decision of
the Federal Government to open a Fulani Radio for the herdsmen in
violation of the federal character spirit of our constitution.”
It will be recalled that a group known as the Yoruba Council of
Youths Worldwide, YCYW, yesterday issues a 7-day ultimatum to Fulani
herdsmenn to leave the entire Southwest region.
The group disclosed this in a communique signed by its president Aremo Oladotun Hassan, which partly reads below
“In view of the recurrent decimal of flagrant brutal killings by the
gun wielding terrorist Fulani Herdsmen/Boko Haram, aggressive invasion
and violent attacks; alleged kidnapping of innocent Yorubas and
Nigerians domiciled in Yoruba land; gross violation of fundamental
rights to human dignity leading to serial and merciless killings of
innocent youths; rising wave of insecurity across the nation in Lagos
around Ojokoro, Ibadan to Ife road, Ibadan to Ijebu Ode/Benin Ore road,
Ekiti to Akure and other highways kidnappings and robberies: incessant
records of brutal ritual killings to mention a few; precipitating our
unanimous resolution via final 7 days quit notice to all Fulani
Herdsmen/Boko Haram to stay off all our territories, towns, villages and
highways in all South West states.”
